The Physical quantities module manages the foundational measurement types used throughout the system, such as temperature, volume or speed. Each physical quantity groups together units that express the same kind of measurement, enabling consistent data handling, reporting, and unit conversion. The module is available via the Settings button , under System settings.

The table provides an at-a-glance overview of every Physical Quantity that are selected from the catalog and the Units available for each. You cannot add or change physical quantities, but you can add units for each physical quantity.

Fields

A Physical quantity contains following fields:

NameThe name of the physical quantity (e.g. Volume).
Click the up-arrow to see the units defined for that quantity (e.g. m³).
DescriptionA description of what the unit represents.
Conversion formulaConverts values from the default unit (marked with 'x') to this unit.
DefaultThe default unit that is used internally for storage and base‐level calculations and has a check mark in this column.
Derived units have the cross mark in this column. Their value is calculated from the value with the default unit.

Adding units

  1. Click the Add button .
  2. Enter the Name, Description and the Conversion formula to translate the value in the base unit to the value in the new unit.

You can optionally change the Default unit used in reports and displays.

Important:  Changing the Default unit will invalidate previously captured data, as historical values are not retroactively converted. This action should only be performed during initial system setup, before live data collection begins, to avoid inconsistencies in reporting and analysis.

Example: Unit 'Minutes' added for the physical quantity 'Duration'.

Catalog
